Chapter 55: How to Enter the Mirror

Although Mangfeng and the others were listening nearby, they dared not voice any objections, their faces filled with confusion.

Jingyi lowered her eyes, tightly holding onto Mangfeng’s hand, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Changying shot her a glance, then slowly withdrew her gaze, as if disdaining to look at her any further.

East Sea Monarch was stunned, remaining silent for a long while, seemingly hesitant. He glanced at the group of dragon princes and princesses, and seeing that Changying had not dismissed them, he reluctantly said, “But the Cold Eye is a secret place of the Dragon Clan. For thousands of years, no mortal has ever been allowed to enter.”

Except for Mangfeng, the dragons exchanged puzzled looks. This was the first time they had heard of the “Cold Eye.”

Jingyi subtly tugged at Mangfeng’s sleeve, her eyes flickering with uncertainty. When she looked up, she forced a pale smile, her gaze filled with confusion, as if she too wanted to know what the Cold Eye was.

Mangfeng raised a finger to his lips, signaling her not to ask.

Seeing this, Jingyi could only lower her eyes again, nervously clutching Mangfeng’s sleeve, her fingers turning white from the grip.

“Since it hasn’t been revealed for thousands of years, it’s time for the Cold Eye to see the light of day,” Changying said indifferently. “The reason Heaven bestowed the Cold Eye upon the Dragon Clan was to allow the Dragon Clan to bless the world. Hiding it away like this is not right.”

East Sea Monarch naturally did not dare to refute. As an immortal, he had to consider the well-being of the Three Realms. But after all, he was just a Dragon King, and he hesitated, “But the Heavenly Emperor—”

“If the East Sea Monarch agrees, I will personally ask the Heavenly Emperor for permission,” Changying said casually.

No one else would dare to ask the Heavenly Emperor for anything, but she was the only one who could speak so lightly of “asking.”

After much deliberation, East Sea Monarch finally nodded. “Since Your Divinity has spoken, the East Sea is willing to open the Cold Eye.”

Changying slightly narrowed her golden eyes, as if deep in thought. After a while, she said, “You need not worry about the rest. I will handle it.”

East Sea Monarch said anxiously, “I dare not trouble Your Divinity!”

But Changying was not one for pleasantries. She placed the wine cup steadily on the table, still untouched.

East Sea Monarch’s heart was pounding. Seeing that Changying did not speak further, he was at a loss for words.

The main hall fell into silence. Everyone held their breath, and even the sound of the waves outside seemed to disappear.

Changying twirled the wine cup on the table, her lips pressed together in a distant, cold expression.

Suddenly, East Sea Monarch gave Mangfeng a meaningful look, then turned and bowed to Changying. “I heard from the Heavenly Emperor that Your Divinity has been feeling cold during your century-long seclusion. A few days ago, the East Sea happened to acquire a Fire Spirit Jade.”

Immortals should not feel cold, let alone a Nine Heavens Divine Venerable. This indicated that the cold she feared was no ordinary chill.

Seeing this, Mangfeng left the main hall to fetch the Fire Spirit Jade.

Changying suddenly looked up, her tightly pressed lips relaxing slightly. Her voice was cold and meaningful as she said, “The Fire Spirit Jade comes from Mount Danxue.”

Mount Danxue, the nest of the phoenixes.

East Sea Monarch quickly nodded. “Indeed, it was sent by the Phoenix Lord.”

Changying released the wine cup and tapped the wooden table with her finger, the sound echoing like a bell in everyone’s hearts. Even East Sea Monarch could not guess her thoughts.

Before Mangfeng could bring the Fire Spirit Jade, Changying suddenly said, “I heard that the Fire Spirit Jade contains a stone spirit that must be bathed in phoenix blood once a month to awaken it.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Jingyi nearly lost her balance.

After Mangfeng left, she had no one to lean on. Now she was trembling, her lips quivering.

East Sea Monarch was momentarily stunned. “If Your Divinity is willing to accept the Fire Spirit Jade, I will send someone to Mount Danxue.”

But Changying looked at Jingyi and said flatly, “Isn’t there one right here? Or does the East Sea Monarch object to his daughter-in-law shedding blood?”

East Sea Monarch quickly said, “I thought it would be better to ask the Phoenix Lord.”

“No need for such formalities,” Changying said indifferently.

East Sea Monarch then waved to Jingyi. “Jingyi, come here.”

Jingyi’s legs were weak, and she nearly fell as she stepped forward. She didn’t dare to look up, her mind in turmoil as she approached.

At that moment, Mangfeng returned with the Fire Spirit Jade. Seeing Jingyi standing before the Divine Venerable, he was puzzled.

Before he could present the jade, Changying hooked her finger, and the jade, held in both hands, was lifted by spiritual energy and gently landed on the wooden table in front of her.

“Come,” she said to Jingyi.

Jingyi looked back at Mangfeng, pleading for help.

Mangfeng quickly lowered his head and asked softly, “Your Divinity, what is the meaning of this?”

“Step back and do not speak,” East Sea Monarch said sharply, fearing his son might recklessly offend the Divine Venerable. His tone was stern, and Mangfeng immediately closed his mouth and stepped back, not daring to ask further.

“Did the Phoenix Lord not teach you how to nourish jade with blood?” Changying’s cold gaze suddenly fell on Jingyi.

Jingyi shook her head repeatedly. Despite her reluctance, she had to raise her hand and use her neatly trimmed nail to make a cut on her palm.

Blood immediately flowed out, and as she clenched her fist, drops of crimson blood fell onto the Fire Spirit Jade.

The jade, originally dull and brown, seemed to ignite with fire after being soaked in phoenix blood, the entire stone becoming vibrant and translucent.

Jingyi slowly withdrew her hand, stammering, “Your Divinity, the stone spirit has awakened.” She hid her hand behind her back, as if ashamed.

Changying lowered her eyes, silently staring at the Fire Spirit Jade, her brow slightly furrowed.

How could this be?

The ancient Devil Clan’s bloodline was imprinted in the soul. Even through reincarnation, it could not be erased.

Moreover, in Zhou Xizhao’s consciousness, she had indeed seen Jingyi’s hand pass through the devil gate without being devoured by devil energy.

Yet why was there no trace of devil poison in her blood? Could it be that the toxic mist in Zhuyou’s eyes was not her doing?

Impossible.

Unless… unless there was something she had overlooked.

Changying clenched the Fire Spirit Jade in her hand and suddenly stood up, her voice cold. “Thank you, East Sea Monarch, for your generosity.”

East Sea Monarch was extremely anxious, bowing as he escorted her out of the main hall.

Outside the hall, the fish and shrimp quickly scattered, hiding behind rocks and cautiously peeking out.

The slender, tall Divine Venerable in black robes rose into the air outside the hall, transforming into a black dragon that soared out to sea, churning the calm waters into chaos.

She still did not know how the Devil Lord’s hun soul had reincarnated into an immortal, and even managed to use the Burning-Heart Wood to complete the remaining two hun souls. If the Phoenix Clan’s hun soul were to be integrated into the Crystal of Law, how many consciousnesses would the returning Devil Lord have?

The dragon coiled and rose in the sea, its massive tail creating huge waves.

Changying knew she had come to subdue the devils. She would not wrongfully kill anyone, but she would not let anyone go either.

Jingyi had harmed mortals, violating heavenly law. But since Zhou Xizhao was gone, the cause and effect were severed, and she could not recklessly reconnect them.

The Phoenix Clan immortal was not innocent, but Changying’s personal desire was to make the Devil Lord’s soul experience all the suffering Zhuyou had endured.

An eye for an eye, that was the principle.

After Changying left, East Sea Monarch seemed dazed, holding his head in pain. He waved his hand, dismissing the dragons.

Jingyi hurriedly grabbed Mangfeng’s sleeve, looking lost.

East Sea Monarch did not find it strange. Even he dared not look directly into the Divine Venerable’s eyes, let alone a small phoenix like Jingyi. Her fear was understandable.

In the main hall, Mangfeng did not leave, his wife still by his side. He was to inherit the East Sea Monarch’s position, so he naturally knew more than the other dragon princes. He bowed and asked, “Father, since the Divine Venerable has made her decision, why did you still call us here? Besides, my siblings do not know what the Cold Eye is.”

East Sea Monarch shook his head. “Do not try to guess Her Divinity’s thoughts. She cares for the world, and revealing the Cold Eye is a benevolent act.”

“But the Cold Eye has not been revealed for thousands of years. If opening it causes any turmoil…” Mangfeng was uneasy.

“With the Divine Venerable here, even I am not afraid. Why are you panicking?” East Sea Monarch sighed and added, “The Cold Eye is a secret realm of the Heavenly Realm, but it has always been managed by the Dragon Clan’s monarch. If the Heavenly Emperor agrees, it should be brought out.”

“Could the Divine Venerable’s actions be too hasty?” Mangfeng asked softly.

East Sea Monarch glanced at him. “During the gods-and-devils war, the Divine Venerable was the Three Realms’ Slayer God. She split her po soul into seven parts to suppress the devils that had fled to the corners of the Three Realms. The ancient Devil Clan should have been annihilated, but one devil survived. That devil returned to the Devil Realm, led an army to capture Shangxi City, and even attempted to invade the Heavenly Palace. Fortunately, the Divine Venerable’s seven po souls remained, and she repelled the invading devil army.” He looked up, his eyes filled with reverence. “Do you still think she acts rashly?”

Mangfeng lowered his head, realizing he had been too narrow-minded.

“The ancient Devil Clan was born as devils. Their blood is like a deadly poison. In ancient times, there were many antidote herbs, but now only the Cold Eye has them,” East Sea Monarch said gruffly. “If the Divine Venerable’s consciousness truly contains devil blood, then naturally, the Cold Eye must be opened to retrieve the herbs. Revealing the Cold Eye is just a side effect.”

Mangfeng no longer had any doubts, but Jingyi, standing beside him, trembled even more, as if terrified out of her wits.

Mangfeng quickly felt her forehead and led her out of the palace, asking softly, “Are you feeling unwell?”

But immortals do not fall ill. He was only joking.

Jingyi shook her head, her voice trembling. “If one day you find that I have changed, will you still care for me?”

“What are you talking about?” Mangfeng chuckled helplessly.
